I feel like I'm lagging with my hypnotherapy blogs. I meant to write them in 'real time' but that hasn't happened. Maybe it's because there was someone who was meant to read what I'm about to write now rather than a few weeks ago when I had intended this to be done. I have also … Continue reading The Magic Anchor- Clinical Hypnotherapy 3rd Session

Sunshine on Deerness!
It's finally happened. The sun came out, the sky turned blue and the roads and paths have stayed dry for almost the entire day. I can practically feel my body synthesising it's own vitamin D. At last. Too good an opportunity to miss (and I'm lucky enough to not work Mondays) we loaded up and … Continue reading Sunshine on Deerness!
Heading West
Today we headed west, well, not that far west but to the west of the Orkney Mainland. The forecast showed a break in the wind and rain so we decided to take the dogs and head somewhere different. An initial venture to go up Hammars Hill was thwarted by 3 loose sheep on the track … Continue reading Heading West
How to Find Hygge When It’s Dreich
It seems to be day 325 of high winds and excessive rain in Orkney. The field beside our house has never been more saturated. I saw the farmer, in an effort to increase drainage from the swamp, digging out the ditches around the periphery in a digger with tracks.... TRACKS! Because a digger with normal … Continue reading How to Find Hygge When It’s Dreich
Finding Hygge in Prague at Christmas
In December (2019) my husband and I travelled to Prague to celebrate his 40th birthday and our 15th wedding anniversary. We chose Prague as it had been recommended to us by pretty much anyone we spoke to who'd been there! The Christmas markets would be in full swing and after a brilliant trip to Budapest … Continue reading Finding Hygge in Prague at Christmas
Little Moments Like These.
I'm sitting here with a fuzzy head and a full heart. The sun is only just peeking over the top of the hill, casting a winter gold glow across everything I can see. There is a gentle rain falling straight down, I can see small birds flitting about in the trees, framed by wintery clouds … Continue reading Little Moments Like These.
Baby It’s Cold (Windy) Outside
It's December and therefore it's cold in Orkney. At the moment, it's not even just the cold it's the howling gale outside that at one point scared the dogs and caused the terrier to take refuge next to me on the couch. This weather is some of my very favourite. I have other favourites too … Continue reading Baby It’s Cold (Windy) Outside
Slowing Down and Bringing Calm.
It's a manic time of year. Loose ends MUST be tied up for Christmas. Gifts must be thought about/made/purchased. Work must be seen through and completed. For me, clients must be booked in, seen and treated and treatment plans formulated. No doubt there will be last minute phone calls next week from those desperate for … Continue reading Slowing Down and Bringing Calm.
Consumerism vs Hygge
Most people, ourselves included, have a house packed with "things". We have everything and more that we need, we probably have most of what we want and we won't use half of what we have. Yet still we spend more money and add more material goods to our vast collections.
Using Hygge For Happiness
Question: How can you make the most of howling gales and pitch black nights which start at 4pm?
Answer: Hygge.
